There are many things to say about John Kerry, but this one is clearly true: He is willing to put his popularity ahead of the faith in which he professes to believe. (Paul Weyrich, CNSNews.com, 8/6/2003).

The document cited by CBS does nothing of the sort. Click for Catholic World News analysis.

Aux. Bishop Thomas Paprocki Joins Card. George defending pope and blasting bigoted Sun-Times headlines and phony Catholic politicians in Chicago
"We unfortunately live in a time when even many people who call themselves Catholic do not live as Christians should. We have far too many supposedly Catholic politicians and government leaders, such as the Democratic Senator from Illinois, who are quick to call themselves Catholic in order to win your Catholic votes, but who turn their back on the faith when it comes to putting Catholic values into action... Just as the people of post-revolutionary France were indifferent and even hostile to the faith, we find ourselves facing similar indifference and even hostility in our time right here in the Chicago area." -- Thomas J. Paprocki, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago; 8/6/2003, Feast of St. John Vianney

MON, AUG 4 -- finds continuation of "the unfortunate legacy of John F. Kennedy, who perhaps paid too high an admission price to enter the race for the presidency in 1960 by basically telling people that he would never bring his religious values into American public life," said C.J. Doyle, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Catholic Action League.  Full article.

SAT, AUG 2 -- Infiltration of the Catholic Church? Testimony of ex-Communist Bella Dodd provides clues to the dissenters in high places, and how they got there (www.inatoday.com, 7/29/2003) -- "An affidavit recently obtained by INA Today attributes the Catholic Church's present state of collapse to a calculated attack beginning decades ago, with initial successes appearing in the 1960s. The affidavit affirms that Communist Party organizer and high Party official, Bella Dodd, made public statements during the decade of the 1960s declaring that the Catholic priesthood was infiltrated by numerous Communist agents, whose mission was "to destroy the Catholic Church from within." Dodd later returned to the Catholic Church and published a book about her experiences, entitled School of Darkness (out of print at present.)"

The Vatican obviously did something right in its recent directive against "gay marriage."  "Catholic" politicians offer pathetic reasons for rejection. (Boston Globe, 8/1/2003).

Kerry goes ballistic, attacking pope's anti-homosexuality stance: "It is important not to have the church instructing politicians [lest their innate wisdom and virtue be dampened--ed.]. That is an inappropriate crossing of the line in this country,'' Kerry said [oblivious to the First Amendment "free expression" clause].  "President Kennedy drew that line very clearly in 1960 and I believe we need to stand up for that line today.''  (Boston Herald, 8/2/2003)

Is Sen. Durbin a "practicing Catholic?" How do public officials get away with ignoring the Catholic faith over and over and over again? (7/25/2003 11:45:00 AM By Mary Anne Hackett, CCI President - CCI) -- Last January Pope John Paul II and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a “Doctrinal Note on Some Questions Regarding the Participation of Catholics in Political Life.” It plainly stated that Catholic politicians must oppose laws that promote abortion, and explained why. It noted that many political figures wrongly separate their personal beliefs from their political platforms and wrongly promote laws contrary to the common good when they have a “grave and clear obligation to oppose any law that attacks human life.” Sen. Durbin claims to be a Catholic, yet rejects the consistent teaching of the Church against abortion, a prohibition that is found in the writings of the apostles and the Vatican II Council that “abortion is an unspeakable crime.” How do Catholic politicians get away scandalizing voters of both major parties?
